Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reported that she got a 94 on her homework assignment. Excellent work! Today we worked on classical test theory. We went over reliability and discrimination. The focus was on point-biserial correlation and coefficient alpha. We also discussed the different ways we notate population and sample measures."
"Today we worked solely on PreAlgebra review. We spent time reviewing the following concepts: operations with decimals (adding, multiplying, multiplying and dividing), modeling multiplying and dividing fractions, and we preview a ratios and proportions lesson for next week."
"Today I tutored the student in elapsed time and telling time to the minute. I used an analog clock, and we skip counted as we studied telling time. He also had a practice book that we read and reviewed to assist him with telling time."
"Initial session. I asked the student why she felt she was not doing well; she explained she had not turned in homework for 3 weeks because she did not understand the material. She says that she does not take notes in class and there is no textbook with examples of completed problems. We went over the assigned homework. She showed that she has a large array of tools to perform the problem but needs assistance with developing her approach to the problem. I strongly encouraged her to consider how she will approach the problem before starting to do math as well as to go back over previous problems to help her approach problems. I also asked her to ask her teacher if there was a textbook in use (the worksheets are labeled by book section) so that she can see other examples of completed problems."
"Today the student worked on make up homework for his new 8th grade math class. It was all review for him. It covered mostly solving equations with the variable on both sides of the equation. He also finished a poem for his language arts class."
"The student and I went over application of exponent rules and factoring. Conceptually I felt she understood it but she did made simple errors while applying the concept. She also said she had done the same on the test. I think it's ok to make mistakes but you always have to check the work so that you can correct any errors made the first time. She did her homework with no problems and I thought she did the best job with factoring but had a couple of issues with the negative exponents and was not careful with the negative signs. Overall, it was a great session and I look forward for our next session."
