Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"4/2: We began our first session by introducing ourselves and reviewing the student's goals for the July 21 GRE. She doesn't have a particular goal score in mind, but she'd like to devote the majority of our sessions to math review. She's very strong with the verbal section and with writing in general, so after some brief essay review next week we'll only discuss those sections on an as-needed basis. We spent the rest of the session going through practice algebra and advanced arithmetic problems on the website in order to better assess her strengths and weaknesses. She'll definitely need to spend a lot of time reviewing math, but a lot of the concepts from high school math are already returning to her. We also briefly reviewed FOIL, exponents, scientific notation, unit conversion, and square roots to jog her memory. Next week, we'll continue with the math assessment, doing practice problems and reviewing concepts when necessary. Her general homework schedule will be to do one practice test every other week and to write two practice essays every other week. For this week, she'll also be brushing up on her multiplication tables. She's obviously a very quick learner, and it was a pleasure working with her tonight!"
"The student's vocabulary continues to improve! We went over some essays he had written. I urged him to work on incorporating his new vocabulary into his essays. His essay structure, flow, and organization has improved significantly, particularly in regards to his introduction and conclusion. It was a great session."
"We went over the differences between combinations and permutations and how to use their respective formulas, as well as practice problems. We reviewed inequalities and did a number of practice questions. I also emphasized the importance of staying calm when looking at a question and formulating a game plan before diving in. I will be looking forward to finding out about the results from the Math Diagnostic test and what areas need more work."
