The ISEE is an entrance exam that is used by many of the independent and magnet schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area. There are three levels of the exam: the Lower Level, for those entering grades five and six; the Middle Level, for those entering grades seven and eight; and the Upper Level, for those entering grades 9-12. Each level of the exam consists of five sections. The Verbal Reasoning section of the Lower Level contains 34 questions; the Middle and Upper Level tests have 40 questions. Your child will have 20 minutes to answer the questions. The Quantitative section on the Lower Level has 38 questions, and your child will be given 35 minutes to complete this section. The Upper and Middle Level Quantitative sections consist of 37 questions, and your child will be given 35 minutes to answer. The Reading Comprehension section on the Lower Level contains 25 questions to be answered in 25 minutes, and the Middle and Upper levels have 36 questions to be answered in 35 minutes. The Mathematics section of the Lower Level has 30 questions that your child will have to complete in 30 minutes. The Middle and Upper Level tests have 47 Mathematics questions that must be answered in 40 minutes. On all three levels, students have 30 minutes to complete the Essay portion. Students are given two five-minute breaks throughout the entire exam.
