Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on homework. We worked on problem solving strategies and reviewed vocabulary. She also completed a lesson on algebraic expression on an online learning website."
"Yesterday, the student was working hard on her Math. As I watched I noticed that she wasn't showing her work. I challenged her to write down her calculations so that she doesn't have to keep all of the numbers in her head. Because she can become challenged with processing, it's important that she not try to overload her short-term memory and that she breaks down her work into visible steps. To that end, I created a graphic organizer that I think will be helpful to her going forward. For the remainder of the time I had her use this organizer to work through some chapter 5 practice problems that her teacher had created for her. This was in preparation for the quiz or test that the student has coming up soon. I already see signs of progress in her confidence and am hopeful that will lead her to success on her upcoming assessment."
"We reviewed triangle postulates and theorems, then completed proof tables using line segment definitions and given information. We covered shape dilation with scale factors."
"In this session, I pushed the student to do some very complex algebra within the field of physics. With a little bit of direction, he was able to derive some of the kinematics equations and understand some very high level concepts. I am impressed with everything that I have seen from him, and I am glad that I have been able to work with him. As we take a break for the summer, I have challenged him to continue working on his mathematics skills. I look forward to hearing about his independent growth, as I am confident that he will have no problem achieving at anything he puts his mind to."
"Today we worked on various topics in linear equations. The student did very well overall with these - she was good at converting between standard form and slope intercept form - the hardest parts were probably graphing absolute value functions and inequalities."
"We finally concluded the review for the final by going over some combinatorics and probability concepts. I am quite confident that the student will do great on his final exam. It was a great semester working with him, and I am looking forward to continuing working with the student in the future."
