Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did a great job. We worked on her homework first, which had to do with number sequences. She was able to get them on her own after we went through about half of them together. We also practiced some items relating to fractions. In addition, we are going to continue to practice our addition and subtraction facts to 20."
"This was my first session with the student. At the start of the lesson he worked on his Algebra homework and I helped him with some negative rules."
"I met with the student Wednesday for approximately 2 hours. We did parts of sections for all 3 types of questions, some timed and some un-timed. I told her to get a book of 10 practice test and also work on the ones she had gotten from school. She is going to try to do at least 2 tests and will also be doing a full timed test on Saturday. We are going to meet Monday at 5:00 and see where she stands."
"Covered Data Abstraction, Polymorphism, Interfaces, and Object arrays. Also the for each loop in Java. Next we'll cover additional data structures and their interfaces. I'm also preparing test/homework questions for her to test her comprehension and retention of what we've covered so far."
"I introduced the basics of the ACT to the student, including instructions, time management, and preparation. We reviewed two English passages and a math section. I assigned the first full diagnostic test for next week."
"Math: Solving linear equations and inequalities. The student was initially unclear about the concept, but he seems to be improving with practice. We will continue practicing. Writing: We talked about writing and discussed what he can do to make it more interesting. We went over parts of a style book I lent to him. We also talked about books and his reading habits."
"Reviewed verb conjugation and worked on building verbs in different tense. Reviewed noun declensions (1st and 2nd Masculine and Neuter). Schematized Latin and English sentences. English to Latin and Latin to English translations using practice problems. Reviewed lessons 7 through 9. The student was much more comfortable with building verbs and entire Latin sentences by the end of the lesson, two areas where she felt she was struggling the most. We will review Lessons 10 through 12 next week and do some more reinforcement work with verbs and sentence building."
"The student worked on integration with substitution using 6 different examples. I checked her school homework on same topic then moved on to applications of integration in finding areas between a curve and straight line between 2 curves on x axis and y axis. The next class will be for 1-1/2 hours."
"First meeting with the student. He told me about his Spanish class, the teacher, and the expectations. He has an excellent accent and pronunciation. We worked on this week's homework and he did well. He knows the grammar and the vocabulary. We will keep improving his Spanish."
"We looked at the test we prepared for last session. We looked at some sample problems and identified how he could write his answers so that it showed enough work, answered the question properly, and helped him come to the right answers. The student has very strong math skills. We then worked on radicals and radical multiplication, finishing a worksheet from class. Once finished, we previewed square/cube roots and radical simplification, which he was already extremely good at having only just seen them."
"He worked on a review packet for math. We reviewed area and volume of a solid as well as counting edges, vertices and faces of solids. He really enjoys math. For language arts, we worked on a couple of worksheets over homographs."
"During this session, I assessed the student's weaknesses and strengths in relation to the competencies needed for the test. We went over strategies for the verbal section of the test. I will be creating online vocabulary lists for him to study in preparation for the exam."
