Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is doing well. We went through a test he took and he did really well in writing and reading. His main issue is the math sections. He is taking a diagnostic next Tuesday."
"Today the student and I went through all of her classes and came up with a strategy for catching up on the work she is behind on. We planned out what work she needed to complete for Wednesday evening as well as what we would be covering each session. "
"The student and I looked at her test scores which were nearly even across the board. We started with the reading section and the strategy for answering questions to give her more time to answer questions and spend less time reading. She underlined key words in the questions and pinpointed their location in the passage. She said that the method made the passages more clear to her, so the next step will be for her to do some passages on her own and time herself to see how long it takes. When she gets that number, she can start cutting down the time it takes her to do passages and still be accurate. At the end of the lesson we covered a couple of important grammar rules for the English section, which she should do some practice on for us to cover next week."
"We reviewed a test that she had taken this week, and started reviewing the year as preparation for the assessment tests that are coming up. We went over the Midpoint formula, the Distance formula, the quadratic equation, and touched on Trigonometry lightly."
"The student and I worked on corrections on a previous test. She understood why she got most of them wrong. I think she may still need practice with the word problems and becoming more comfortable with fractions. After the test, we worked on her homework involving discrete and continuous graphs. She didn't have problems interpreting the data."
"Since our last session, the student had completed the math sections of a practice test. We reviewed any questions he missed or skipped and I shared some tips along the way. They have a number of books on the SSAT, ISEE, and general math and English review. I showed him a few sections that he might want to study in a book on word problems, and then we looked at a few examples his mother had printed from a website and practiced setting up equations. We specifically reviewed certain clue words that translate well into mathematical functions, such as "less than," "product," "sum," and "be" verbs."
"The student teacher is giving the test again to the whole class. The test was over Green's Theorem and solving some curves. We discussed conservative fields and how we can test for conservativeness in two different ways, finding the curl and finding a potential function. There was also a question about length of a function that dates back to calculus 1 so we reviewed that."
"Finished interpreting timing exercise on English portion from last session. Began timing exercise for a practice math portion. The student is planning to review prealgebra, geometry and algebra concepts and questions before next session. For next session, I am going to give her a list of all basic formulas needed for the math portion of the ACT."
"The student and I worked on chapter 8 for her stats class hypothesis testing. I taught her how to write the null and alternative hypothesis, explain type I and type II errors, and conduct a hypothesis test using the TI84."
"Today was our inaugural session. We started by reviewing some algebra concepts to gauge where the holes in his understanding lie, and what needs shoring up. When we transitioned to physics, I discovered that his physics book is actually very conceptual, and the math is relatively light in comparison. This will make it easier for us to work algebra review, geometry and physics sidebyside."
"Discussed basics of the GMAT Math, reviewed ratios and proportions.
Created individual action plan for studying based on client goals (emailed to client).
Provided client with formulas sheet for exam."

"The student and I covered a lot of fractions and probability review today. He seems to really be getting a handle of the material and he seems to feel comfortable and ready for the test next week. We will continue to review on Tuesday so he will be best prepared. We are hoping he will get at least a 90%."
