Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent our first session going over suggested curriculum from student's school and then moved on to math. Student has a very solid grasp of multiplication. I focused on helping her write all problems down in a neater fashion, so as not to make minor errors in calculation. I also introduced the concept of complex division and working with remainders. We also spent some time working with electricity games, building simple series circuits online."
"In this session, the student and I worked on his math, science, and English homework assignments. He did a great job with his science homework, which focused on measurements. He also did a great job with his English homework, which focused on nouns. His math homework presented a little bit more trouble for him. While multiplication and addition were no problem for him, he struggled a bit with long division. We worked on his homework problems together and I gave him some tips that I think helped him get the hang of it by the end of the assignment."
"The student and I studied most of the night for a Math quiz he has tomorrow. We also reviewed his incorrect answers on last week's Science Test."
"During our session we went over percentage of change and how to interpret word problems that dealt with percentage of change, discounts, markups and how to arrange the problem to calculate these figures. We also talked about the relationship of percentages and discounts/markups. For example: if there is a 15% discount it is the same as figuring out 85% of the original price."
"We switched gears for this session and returned to reading. I asked the student several questions as a refresher and it seemed like we needed a more comprehensive review. We took notes on the three questions and then practiced them on a story we had already read."
"Student 1 completed his math homework on probability and continued to work on his English homework packet. He was much more focused today, which was welcomed. Student 2 worked on his math homework review today. He did very well on the assignment. Additionally, he thinks that he may have gotten in the 80's on his probability test, which is great considering his difficulty with the subject."
