The lesson started with an explanation of what is a derivative, and ended with the student demonstrating his understanding of a derivative by solving a few problems. We also spent a good amount of time discussing solving for maximums and minimums, inflection points, concavity or curves, and real world application of calculus."

"The purpose of our session is to have a general review before the student's final exam on Wednesday. We started reviewing problems that she got wrong in previous tests; these problems are about finding extrema, function intervals of increasing and decreasing, concavity, derivatives, tangent to a point on the graph, applications of derivatives, maximize and minimize some functions, method of Newton to find roots of an equation, and integrals, indefinite and definite. I also advised her to study more indefinite integrals. She told me she understood everything and seemed to be more confident in solving these problems. Overall the wins from this session is that she had a better understanding of the concepts and problem solving, she is ready for her final on Wednesday."
"In this session the student and I went over an online review that her teacher had uploaded. These topics covered a wide range of material from PreCalc to calculus with a different topic for each problem. The student was still a little shaky on how to determine the limit of a function when it is coming from the left and the right. After working through a few of these problems she was able to more fully understand. We also went through a couple algebraic techniques for solving the limits of quotient functions which she remembered how to do after a few examples."
"Today, we discussed linear approximations (approximations using the tangent line at a nearby point), solving differentials using separation of variables, and graphing slope fields. We developed the equation for linear approximations. We learned how to graph slope fields and how to use that graph to sketch a solution. Then, we used the separation of variables technique to solve differential equations."
