Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed Lessons 1-35 for a test. The student had a review sheet covering the material that would be on the test."
"The student had an exam on Friday, so we spent this session reviewing for said exam. We practiced conversions, operations with fractions, and determining precision."
"The student and I reviewed a study guide to prepare for an upcoming math quiz. We reviewed coordinate graphs and irrational numbers."
"The first student and I went first, working on math only, per dad's request. In math, we worked on number lines, addition and subtraction concepts in number line, adding fractions to a number line, and the concepts of number line usage in mathematics. The second student and I did both reading and math. In reading, we worked on reading comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary in passages, and multi-syllable words. In math, we worked on single and double digit addition and subtraction. A great session all around!"
"We covered using logs and exponents to solve for x and compute logs and exponents. For next time, we need to cover dividing fractions, exponent rules, algebraic simplification, and then move on to more complicated solving with logs."
"Yesterday the student and I went over volumes of solids by revolution. She seemed to understand the basics but had trouble with the concept of revolution about a line other than an axis. To correct this I tried showing her how the volume formula that she was used to was really just generating many thin cylinders centered on the x (or y) axis. I then explained why the formula would not be able to revolve about any other line than the chosen axis. I told her that, instead, we move the problem to the axis where we can do the math. I believe this helped her. We practiced more problems and I asked her to do the integration by hand so as to practice that as well."
