"The student and I worked on the verbal section of the exam today after briefly reviewing a few math problems for last week. Here are some thoughts on the lesson. First, while she has a general good command of the vocabulary needed to answer the majority of the questions, she is needing to do a little brushing up. She might consider purchasing a GRE vocab flashcard set to supplement her learning. Second, while she has good reading skills, she needs to learn how to parse through what the question is asking and what the passage says. Very often the exam plays "tricks" by referencing a small detail; she might misread the idea and answer based on a more holistic interpretation. I recommend completing as many practice sections as possible until she familiarizes herself with all there is. We will resume in two weeks with the verb section of practice test 2."
"Today we did algebra/geometry/probability problems so that I could get a good understanding of the student's level. He understand the concepts very well but biggest problem seems to be with solving equations."
"Today we did an hour of math and an hour of verbal from the review book. The biggest takeaway is that verbal answers have to match the end of the sentence and each other. Also in the math section, try to take the easy road first! For next week, we assigned the rest of the chapter of the math, and some 3-blank verbal questions to cover data analysis, cut down our time and bring up our confidence for 3 blanks. She is already seeing a lot of progress!"
