Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on logarithmic integration as well as trigonometric integrals. We were also able to look ahead a couple sections to prepare her for what will come."
"We had another very productive session. We went over his review sheet for his test on Friday. We made good progress on it finishing it up without any real issues. After that we worked on multiplication and division facts for extra practice and ordering and comparing rational numbers to help in his preparation for his test. Good session."
"The student is really coming along well. Math doesn't seem to be as much of a chore for her. We've had some great discussions about different math concepts and how you use them in real life. She's made some great progress in her problem solving and is using that as her main 'tool' from her math skills 'tool box'."
"The student and I spent a lot of time looking at systems of xyz equations. We've looked at systems of equations in a few different situations this year, and they keep getting more complex. He got the hang of it."
"The student had a few questions from his homework over rational exponents. He was well prepared with what questions he needed to go over. He is still getting used to when to change a radical to a rational exponent and when to leave it as a radical. That is something he will get more accustomed to over time as he does it more frequently. After those questions, he asked me to make up some problems for him about solving polynomial equations. I created six questions, and he did all of the problems perfectly. He is very bright and learns quickly. He was prepared for the tutoring session and we could really jump right in."
"Had two sessions. First was introductory and an effort to assess needs. During the second, we went over basics and determined that the need was in application of statistical methods, not the formulas. Reviewed homework and related review to student."
"During our time together, the student worked very hard in completing his homework from Algebra: for this, he read the assigned reading, and took notes on the passage, as well as completed practice problems. He received a 89% on his most recent exam, so this definitely notes progress, which is great to see. As always, I enjoyed our time together."
"We focused on Physics, in particular, vectors. The student had 6 problems he wanted me to go over. I went over 5 of them, with him."
"Today the student and I started going over Chapter 3 in her math book. We started by multiplying and dividing. I showed her that multiplication is like addition and division is like subtraction as we looked at some examples from her textbook. Then we did some long division with and without a remainder. After she completed the long division I taught her how to check her work by multiplying. Then we multiplied by using place value. This time she checked her work by using partial products. I stressed the importance of taking her time and to always check her work when she's done. She did well during this lesson."
"The student and I prepared for his upcoming exam on all of unit 2 going through each lesson and reviewing materials and concepts and then doing practice problems if necessary. Topics specifically focused on: direct variation, word problems, absolute value problems and linear equations."
"We spent all of this session practicing for the student's Unit 1B Test Review. We first practiced manipulating given equations to find their inverses, and he easily handled this. We also reviewed how to transform one function into another. We also went over composition of functions again, and this was old hat for him, too. Finding the domain of functions came up again, and it all came back to him."
"Both girls are working on logic and reasoning problems. The homework sheet this week contained word problems for addition and subtraction."
