Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First 30 minutes we focused on writing; second 1.5 hours we spent doing math -- worksheet with emphasis on symbols, averages, and geometry."
"At this session, we started by talking a bit about the student's last experience taking the SAT: how she prepped last time (test prep course), her general strengths and weaknesses, etc. She hopes to improve in every section but wants to give special attention to math, so that's where we started. We talked about general pacing strategy and then walked through a general review of numbers and operations, how/when to plug in numbers, number lines, sets, Venn diagrams, sequences, and sum of consecutive integer problems. For each concept, we worked through at least three example problems (one easy, one medium, and one hard). She is comfortable with the basic math, but occasionally will make minor arithmetic mistakes, so I stressed to her how important it is to write down information as she works through a problem- she got much better at this as the session went on! From here, I'm going to assign her a number of homework problems via e-mail. Next week we're going to target functions, exponents, and radicals, and move on to a bit of SAT reading work. I'm looking forward to it!"
"We covered more math problems and verbal problems as well as the problems that the student had difficulties with during her practice SAT. We primarily focused on grammar and vocabulary problems."
