Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session I worked with Student 1 to review some of the additive properties he had learned earlier in the week and to help him with his current work on quadrilaterals. We went over his homework and I chose some extra problems to work on. With Student 2, we prepared for his upcoming math test by reviewing rules and problems in his study guide."
"Worked ratio word problems and unit conversions. The student struggled a bit at first with the word problems, but got it right by the end of our session."
"The student needed help on her math project. It was about conversion of different measurements and the conversion between standard form and scientific notation. We did the math problems together and she seemed confused about some of the concepts. The last part of the project is to write a paper about the importance of the scientific notation in real world life. I suggested she use "light year" as the topic and went over some specific points with her. I also gave her some suggestions. I hope she can try her best to write a good paper."
"Today the student and I worked on his science study guide for the evening, discussing storms and weather patterns, movements of air masses, and meteorology. We completed all 27 questions and an additional paragraph question. We took two short game breaks to maximize focus and motivation."
"The first student and I completed and corrected her homework today. We did find a method for 3-digit subtraction with regrouping that worked exceptionally well for her! The second student and I completed his reading. He's reading more fluently now, only stumbling the last five minutes or so. The third student and I worked on the online reading website today. She may want to adopt a practice of doing the program for 10-15 minutes a day. All three did great jobs today!"
"The student and I worked through her homework which focused on area and perimeter, as well as multiplication of 2 digit numbers. We focused on using the traditional algorithm but also learning the box method of partial products that works with 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. We also looked over her measurement test which she received a 17/20 on. She was very happy with her work. I was proud to see to that she had used all the strategies that I had taught her on the test. We went back and corrected a previous worksheet that focused on simplifying fractions which she is able to do more automatically now after some practice. This is still an area where she needs prompting to be successful, but has the tools to do so. We ended by playing fraction war and multiplication war with a set of cards I brought. Great session!"
