"Reviewed practice test problems and went through improving paragraphs in Writing and sentence completion in Reading."
"Math - solid geometry, n choose k, fundamental counting principle. problems with exponents, diagonals of shapes in 2 dimensions and solids in 3 dimensions, and prime numbers."
"The student and I worked on functions and their graphs and on solving for a variable in terms of other variables. We also made a flashcard with some properties of square roots. Next week we will meet on Friday after school at the library."
"The student is intelligent, highly motivated, and very focused. She's struggling with time on the Reading and English portions of the ACT. Today we identified her strengths, weaknesses, and goals with respect to the ACT in general, and the English and Reading sections in particular. We reviewed specific tips and tricks for approaching the Reading section and developed a plan of attack for increasing her score. We did several practice passages together."
"The student and I did division review, and reviewed addition and subtraction of fractions. We also did review of averaging and mode evaluation. I did an introduction to basic formulas using area and perimeter calculations as the real world problems. He is determined to overcome his difficulties with math."
"We covered math and vocab today - math was greatly improved from last time, with only 3/25 and 4/25 wrong on both sections. The student also improved on vocab, getting 80% correct on both practice tests (out of 40 questions). We went over everything he had trouble with and I had him write down the important concepts for review."
"We spent two hours doing practice sections and discussing test-taking strategies. The student has a very good grasp on the academic concepts that are being tested and will likely gain the most from learning test-taking strategies and getting practice for his test-taking endurance."
"The students and I covered three reading comprehension passages (one humanities, one comparative social science, one fictional prose) with a focus on understanding author's arguments and context passage. The students generally did well identifying passage details, particularly when using strategies such as splitting answer choices and process of elimination."
"Tonight the student and I worked on the Quantitative Section of the ISEE. We utilized the practice problems on the study platform. We focused on exponents with multiplication and division. We also worked on geometry formulas such as the surface area of a cube. We also found a acronym for sine, cosine and tangent. The acronym we found came in handy when we worked through some of the problems using sine, cosine and tangent. For her last session, I am going to work with her on test-taking strategies and alleviating test anxiety issues."
"The student and I covered ACT Reading and English today. I timed him on a short Reading passage and he did an excellent job, finishing with a bit of time left over for checking and he got almost every question correct. We went through a list of grammar concepts that would be on the ACT as well. We had a few minutes at the end so we did a couple of math problems as a refresher."
"We went through the English and Science sections question by question for any wrong answers, to complete them together and discuss how to approach each type of question. The student knows the content. I will send the student another English and Science test for completion, along with the previous Reading and Math that was not net completed."
"We covered all three areas today - critical reading, writing, and math. The student's strongest subject is definitely math. He can do almost every question easily and quickly in his head, and even the harder ones he does faster than average. With critical reading, he gets the vast majority of the questions right, but on several questions he struggles because he thinks his answer is "better." So we need to work on strategies to recognize what the SAT considers the best answer, even though there are other good answer choices. He also has a very strong foundation in grammar."
