Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed the homework I gave her from the previous day. She correctly answered 7/10 questions. We reviewed concepts from the homework together before she was given a 20 point mastery test. On the mastery test she received a score of 16/20. She continues to make simple errors that lead to incorrect answers. The more practice she receives, the more I see a decrease in the number of errors."
"We discussed the basic concepts of integral and differential calculus. We then went on to solve some basic integrals for the area between curves and discussed finding volumes using discs and cylindrical shells. I also showed her some helpful mnemonics for memorizing derivatives to trig functions and points on the unit circle. Her problem seems to lie in setting up the integrals rather than solving them. I have some thoughts on how to tackle this issue that we will go over in the upcoming sessions."
"We continued to do practice problems from the AP Calculus BC book, specifically covering limits and differentiation. We identified specific strategies through the problems which he needs to solidify. He is going at a great pace and is on track to get a score of 5 on the AP Calculus BC test. We are working on taking problems step by step in a slightly slower manner in order to not lose points from easily caught mistakes. He will continue to do practice problems through the remaining chapters of the book."
"Yesterday, the student and I reviewed her homework assignment that's due Monday and we continued working on solving algebraic equations. She was able to finish her homework with ease and she is continuing to gain confidence solving algebraic equations. I think that confidence will serve her well when her class reaches that topic so we will continue building on the confidence!"
"We covered writing and simplifying expressions in radical form and exponential form. The student provided me a worksheet that had been assigned for homework with the intention of studying for a test Friday. She caught on immediately as per usual and required only a small amount of coaching. She was persistent and had a pleasant attitude."
"Today the student and I continued our work reviewing fifth grade math to get her prepared for sixth grade math. We began by going over some simple division worksheets, doing double digit divided by single digits. We then reviewed her fifth grade math workbook and started reviewing subjects she said she had trouble with. Then we arrived at long division and did some long division worksheets. Overall it was a great session, and with the continued division practice she will soon be a master of division!"
