Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to work on the math section today. We began by correcting her practice homework problems and then completing another section test. In doing so, we discussed how to calculate permutations and combinations without a calculator, how to read a bell curve in regards to standard deviations, and how to solve the first slew of questions using various metrics to evaluate which column is greater. Overall, she seems to be improving and is getting a better grasp on what the exam is demanding of her. While there is still more work to be done, I want to transition to the verbal section next week in order to make sure she has at least two sessions devoted to it. She has been assigned the first section of the first practice exam."
"We discussed the student's goals for the exam and her scores from the previous test. We talked about resources for quantitative, verbal, vocabulary, writing, and test taking strategies. We talked about the format of the revised test, question types and structure. The student wants to focus the review mostly on math since she will plan to review the vocab on her own and feels very comfortable with the writing. We will look at some resources for reviewing the writing topics ahead of time and some sample essays so she can see what format they are expecting. For next time, she will complete the quantitative assessment test #1 so we can assess with math areas to focus on. She won't have time to do a lot of math practice between sessions, so we will try to review all the material during tutoring sessions and have her go through 2 full length practice tests on her own before her scheduled exam date. Today we began the algebra review section and went through problems together including factoring, distributing, exponents, fractions, and word problems."
"The student is doing GREAT! We reviewed GCF/LCM and primes and covered arithmetic operations, percent, ratio, and rate. She is going to do very well on the GRE. Our future sessions will cover algebra, geometry, and data interpretation, as well as series."
