Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Tonight was a mixed review of different material from the algebra 1 curriculum and some from the geometry curriculum. We covered topics in radicals, linear equations, systems of equations, and quadratic equations. The student also wanted to know more about what to expect next year in her geometry class so we briefly discussed triangles, polygons, and proofs. She is really concerned that she will forget a lot of the material and start the year behind. We talked about possibly doing a session in the middle of the summer to keep her refreshed."
"The student did extremely well today. He had the day planner that I asked him to purchase, and he did very well on the review we did today for his test; he seemed very happy and eager to work. I'm very happy with his overall demeanor!"
"I helped the student prepare for her math test. We covered expressions involving negative numbers, the distributive property, and using number lines. She did well, and I expect she'll succeed on her test tomorrow."
"The student needed some guidance finishing up her packet on parabolas and quadratic equations. She did very well on this topic and is starting to notice patterns to help her solve problems faster and more easily. She may need more practice to help build her confidence and reduce little errors, but she has a good understanding of quadratic equations. We also practiced using the quadratic formula, even though this was not a topic covered in her materials. I suggested the quadratic formula as a way to check her work or as a tool when she feels stuck on a problem with quadratic equations. With a final coming up, I suggested that she practice quadratic equations a few more times before starting to review previous topics."
"Today, we worked on reading comprehension while the student worked on his AVID project about researching a college. After that, we continued to read his book, Mockingjay, and worked on fluency and answering comprehension questions. He is doing great and his grades are improving!"
"We went over her review packet. She could do most of the volume problems and circles problems without too much help. She needs to review her triangles more before her final next Thursday. She did discuss with me that she is more worried for her biology final than her math final, which are on the same day. I told her to focus on both, but realize that spending more time on studying biology than math is okay as long as she still reviews the math."
