Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a pre-calc test tomorrow. We spent the entire session going over the review sheet. The material ranged from solving and graphing polynomials, completing the square, vertex/standard form of equations, Rational Root Theorem, finding the zeros, synthetic and long division, and complex numbers. He did well going over the problems. He appears to have a good foundation; he just makes small mistakes which could lead to incorrect answers. He had a few more problems to finish for his review. Hopefully that practice will help him stay focused and prevent making small mistakes."
"We reviewed how to find vertical, horizontal, and slant asymptotes, and how they could be used to sketch graphs together with intercepts. We also reviewed special cases where the graph has holes. Finally we did a little review of building functions using known complex roots."
"For calculus we went over a few homework problems that he hadn't been able to figure out yet on domain and range of functions. For chemistry we went over some questions on the classification of different compounds and identifying the number of protons and electrons in an element."
"Today we focused on reviewing things the student had been discussing in pre-calculus to clarify the confusions she had. We also discussed how to execute vector math problems that had been presented to her in Physics."
"We went over the students precalculus homework and covered questions that she had pertaining to her course material which was about the law of sines and cosines. We scheduled two sessions for next week when she will be in Italy."
"We spent the session as we have previously going through his homework. We are in a better rhythm now of skipping over things he feels comfortable with and he feels this has been of help to him. To further increase the benefit of our sessions I continue to suggest that he goes through the material prior to our sessions so we can focus only on the topics he's most confused with, but if he's happy then I'm happy. The student continues to be very pleasant to work with."
"We covered graphing trig functions again, I didn't see any grades, she has a quiz coming up and a test coming up, I will she if she will share her grades with me on those. She is struggling the most with remembering when there is a vertical flip, and how the period and phase change affect the graph."
"This session served as a review for the student's upcoming precalculus test/quiz on Friday. The student is taking great initiative in seeking help and guidance. She asked to go over one of her previous bookwork assignments. We went over polynomials that involved square roots, whether expanding or factoring. From there, we lightly touched other components of what is expected on her test/quiz."
"The student just had a quiz in math and she did well. After this we did an assessment practice set on percent problems. I showed the student the most direct methods and how to connect them to her method."
"Today we went over a review for the student's pre-calculus test. We reviewed using the unit circle, and angular and linear speed, finding arc length given an angle and a radius. The student did well setting up trig word problems. We also went over how to find a reference angle to solve trig functions for an angle that is over 360 degrees"
"The student and I reviewed for his math test the next day. We completed his test review packet, and were able to add in some vocabulary review as well."
"The student and I worked a lot on filling any gaps that were there before we began our sessions. In this vein, we reviewed two previous quizzes and determined ways to plug those gaps of understanding. She is a very bright student and eager to learn."
