Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed the student's math mid chapter review and clarified how to find average and what functions need to happen when the question asks for combined. We did three additional practice problems and the student seemed to have a better understanding. We then reviewed dividing fractions and word problems. Then we read over her first two pages of her science chapter to review and work on reading comprehension."
"We spent most of this session working on the student's math and reading comprehension homework. She did okay with the math but is getting different 3D shapes mixed up, so I gave her a flash card drill exercise for her homework. We also spent some time researching subjects for a school project."
"Today, we worked on both English and Math prep for the student's upcoming statewide tests. For math, we went over some of her old tests in her portfolio and focused on the topics she struggled on. For ELA, we went over book 2 of a practice state exam with the listening component. Next week, we will focus on day 2 and day 3 of the ELA test."
"The student had an upcoming test in her AP Government class that covered the first two chapters of her textbook. We used this session to organize her materials, complete the work that had to be turned in prior to the test, and study the pertinent information. Generally, she had a good grasp of the general material, but seemed overwhelmed by the level of detail she needed to be familiar with. As we went over the material, I asked her leading questions that would get her to think more critically about the concepts. By the end of the session, she was able to discuss most of the material for the test in detail and accurately explain all of the important concepts."
"Today's session was spent reading and taking notes on chapter 4 of the history textbook in preparation for an upcoming assessment later this week. The session was very productive, and we were able to get through a substantial amount of material. In addition, the student submitted an essay for his English class today after I edited it, and he has an upcoming assessment in that course also. I left him with a couple of helpful hints and suggestions for how he should prepare for his tests at home. I am really hoping to see positive results on his tests this week."
"The student and I started the session by reviewing his notes and checking his notebook for organization. We reviewed vocabulary words for Literature. I noted words that he had problems with for review in our next session. We moved to assignments for his Math class. We reviewed his Math notes on properties (distributive, reflexive, symmetrical, transitive, etc.) and angles. He used his notes to complete his homework assignment. Lastly, we reviewed his notes for Science. His class is starting a new lesson on simple machines. We will continue to work on formulas, notes, and vocabulary during the next session."
