Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student had an "aha!" moment today during our session. She got a bit nervous during one of the math sections, rushed through a lot of problems and answered a large portion of the questions wrong. I often remind her not to rush when we are working together - in fact, when we go through a problem step-by-step together I make it a point to write out all of my work and I will purposely finish the problem after her. It has taken her a long time to see that her internal monologue is actually a bit frantic and panicked. This is something that I have pointed out countless times during our sessions; however, today was the first time she really stepped back and caught herself feeling panicked and chaotic. She asked me if she could do a short timed section completely by herself because she wanted to prove to me that she understood what her main problem was. Sure enough, she improved significantly on the next section! I have assigned her a lot of timed math practice sections for homework (probably six math sections total) and I really hope that she can continue to work at such a calm - but efficient! - pace. I am proud of her for finally recognizing the issue instead of just taking my word for it. Way to go! Let's hope this type of progress continues."
"Started the session with a vocab quiz, which the student did well on. Also we reviewed the problems I assigned (a few grid-in math problems, sentence error questions, and improving paragraphs questions). In the latter half of the session, she worked on her essay writing and we worked out a plan for the next five weeks. For homework, I asked her to tear out the vocab flashcards and study the week one words in her study book."
"Approximated numbers underneath radical sign. We also covered approximating numbers within range of values."
