"We went through a variety of basic concepts that the student said he was having trouble understanding. I explained them, and he didn't seem too confused about them afterward. It's hard to tell as the student doesn't like to show when he doesn't understand something. I tried to gauge his level of understanding. At the end, we did a practice free response question. I left him on his own for a short while to try and write the program and just let me know when he needed help. He read the problem and then immediately asked for help, as he didn't know where to start. I walked him through the solution, and explained to him some basic searching algorithms. I left him with a program to write that is at the right level of difficulty of the AP test, but involves exclusively concepts we'd spent a lot of time talking about and that he seems to understand. My hope is that in writing this program he'll learn how to apply his theoretical knowledge of computer science to actually being able to write programs."
"We went over ArrayLists, classes, inheritance, and Boolean logic in preparation for the student's final exam. She seemed comfortable with the material as we went on and I suggested using a coding website for additional practice with free-response method writing and working on programming fundamentals."
"I helped the student on his homework. We went over his code and why it did or didn't work. We also wrote new methods."
