Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of our time reviewing for Spanish because the student has a test on Tuesday. He had most of the work in his packet correct, though we had to make a few minor corrections. There were also some pages that we had to do completely because he had not started them. He's pretty good at translating the vocabulary words, but had a little trouble with verb conjugation. I did write out the list of correct verb endings for -ar verbs as a reference. We ended with him doing his math homework. It covered geometric proportions and he was able to match each shape card to its proportional larger shape."
"We focused on the conjugations of ir and er verbs and their basic endings. We also reviewed ar verbs, and continued to work through responding to questions in Spanish. We also brought back the ir and ser verbs, which he remembered once I went over them briefly, which is an indication that he is retaining what we are learning. He also said he did well on his last assessment."
"The student showed me the video her teacher gave her at school. It was a Chinese TV show about learning Chinese. It was composed of a short conversation and detailed explanation by an American whose Chinese was excellent. I watched with her and reviewed new vocabulary. She was asked to write notes on the video. Then, I helped her with her homework, which was to translate some sentences from English to Chinese. It was helpful for her coming exam."
"The student worked hard on his assignments tonight. We worked on a listening activity as well as a reading comprehension worksheet. We were able to complete all of the assignments. Next week we will have more time to study vocabulary and practice writing. Great job! I appreciate your hard work."
"We continued practicing oral Chinese. The student introduced his favorite food to me and told me how to make it. As he was talking, I helped with his sentence and made it much smoother. He also talked about his job. I wrote down the Chinese phrase or sentences to describe his job duties. It was great time."
"We worked together on this week's assignment which was to describe her room using phrases that describes placement, which we have worked on in the past, including "next to", "behind", "in front of", "on top of", etc. She had a solid idea of what to write and how to go about writing the paragraph and was able to express ideas. The student tends to say a sentence with the structure of an English sentence still, so I assisted her mainly in correcting this. Overall the lesson went well, and I'm glad to see that she is a lot more comfortable using Chinese than before."
