Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, I reviewed the student's homework and covered the definite article for her. She did very well in the Unit 3 exercises. She was able to learn new useful vocabulary. I then discussed the various rules for using the definite article with her and she completed one exercise. For homework, I asked her to complete exercise 6.1-6.3, Unit 3 of the Conversational Spanish book, and a few exercises for the indefinite article."
"We prepared for the student's test by doing the flashcards on countries and continents, the compulsory vocabulary. We also practiced writing the conjugations of the verbs tener, necesitar and hablar. By the end of the session, the student was in high spirits. He is a great student and I am sure he will do well."
"Today I worked with the student on preparing for his Spanish quiz tomorrow. We covered a list of verbs that are irregular in the preterite which his teacher said he is required to know. I started by reviewing the difference between the preterite and the imperfect, and then we went over the conjugations. We also reviewed a vocab list which he said he was still trying to learn. By the time we were done I think that he had most of it down."
"The student's Spanish reading fluency is improving quickly! In this session, she was able to read through a book we read together the previous week, completely independently and with fewer than one or two mistakes. She has also mastered a set of noun flashcards, so in this session we began learning verb flashcards and their conjugations."
"We reviewed the student's homework - numbers 1-20, conjugation of "ar" verbs, and names of Spanish places in the US. We reviewed formal v. familiar (tu v. usted) forms of address, introduced conjugation of "estar," how to introduce oneself and ask others for their names, numbers 21-1000, conjugation of "er" verbs, and focused on pronunciation. The student finds some of the pronunciation challenging, but with practice she will improve. She has a good base grasp of most of the sounds of the alphabet and that will assist with better pronunciation going forward."
"The student and I worked on the second half of her essay due for tomorrow. We wrote the third paragraph and conclusion and then spent time reviewing spelling and grammar. At the end I went through and assisted her in adding more variety and complexity to her essay through diverse word choice."
