"Today we worked through the student's vacation packet. We read "Dinosaurs" and completed two worksheets about the events in the book, one on his thoughts about the events and another on beginning, middle, and end. He enjoyed sounding out the dinosaurs' long names by syllables and spelling the names out completely. We also completed a worksheet from the packet about past, present, ongoing, and future tense. He had an understanding of the correct word that fit after we reviewed the concepts. At the end of the session we played a quick game to review past sight words. I looked over his sight words quiz from last week. He scored a 6/6 which is a major improvement from his scores before I began working with him."
"The student had a reading packet. The packet consisted of all reading passages. I made sure to make him sound out what he wrote rather than telling him to spell the words so he could get some practice with phonics"
"The two students first read a story together, which had many of sight words in them. Next they worked on compound words using flashcards. Student one made a word matching game out of the cards. Student two was able to read most of the words, and knew exactly what a compound word was. Next they finished with a couple pages in the workbook. They practiced reading, following the directions, and writing answers. Student two did very well, and was able to make rational decisions of the answers asked in the workbook. Student one suggested to use the newspaper to find and highlight sight words."
