"Student and I read an interesting story that was short but still challenged her in the area of story length and vocabulary. After she did her retell, there were five short response questions that she answered. To evaluate whether or not the physical writing of her thoughts was getting in the way of comprehension, I acted as her scribe. Once she understood the actual vocabulary the story used, she really started to gain some confidence in her ability. In our next session she will read another story with additional new vocabulary and attempt to complete some answers using her own hand. We also plan to create a shoebox habitat for a school assignment (having already researched her topic, dolphins, on her own). I feel confident that her progress will accelerate with time!"

"The student selected blends that he has learned and is able to recall the sounds. He also learned new blends "str". I introduced long vowel sounds made when there are two continuous vowels. He read an online book that reinforced the new vowel concept as well as completed an online activity. He typed up a story on the computers and read a book that his tutor created/wrote for him."
