"I met the student for the second time this week. We did an outdoor activity outside for the first hour, then indoor reading and writing for the second hour. The student and I played basketball while we communicated in Chinese the whole time. Then we read a Chinese book and an English language book (I read to her in English, then picked a few words out for her to translate into Chinese). Today's new words to write were: vagrant, wish and happy."
"We started with pinyin pronunciation (tones, reading pinyin) and moved onto some basic phrases to introduce oneself and others. We also discussed the student's goals and his timeline for learning the language. He wants to focus on conversation and does not feel the need to learn how to read and write at this time. He seems eager to learn and devoted to the process."
"Reviewed Vocab words, made index cards for the big test coming up. With the student, we separate a pile of cards that he knows, another pile that he needs to work on. His homework is to review unknown words everyday and practice writing them. With the second student we review the same sets of Vocab words and worked on a page in the workbook."
