Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by going over several questions that the student had in the triangles problems. She did well on these, though the similar figures initially gave her some trouble. After this, we worked through word problems. After we worked through these, we worked on rates for some time. I used this to teach general word problem skills. I gave her the link to some practice exams. She is to e-mail me with whatever further types of problems that she thinks would be helpful. I will generate appropriate test sets to provide this content for her."
"I met with the student for the first time today. We discussed his goals for the placement test, and for grad school. We then reviewed basic information about the test (format, scoring, topics covered, and so on) and then he did a bunch of math problems, to target study areas. I anticipate doing a lot of content review as well was teaching him specific math strategies for the test."
"We introduced the format of the test and its timing before launching into a bit of math review. The student is very strong in quantitative skills and remembers all the concepts, most without prompting. Toward the end of the lesson we turned to a little bit of reading comprehension, beginning to work on the idea of active reading. Next time I plan to take that active reading approach to the next level through the use of passage maps. This was a great session!"
