Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began this session by reviewing some questions that she had from her homework. We then worked through the concepts needed for triangle problems, and she picked these up quickly. We decided to start the word problems, but I wanted to make sure that she had enough time to do all of her homework before our next session. Therefore, we only began the two-variable problems. She has excellent skills in these, so we will only need to touch up before moving quickly through the other word problem chapters. I also instructed her to do more discrete verbal."
"We reviewed algebra material through inequalities. The student was engaged and enthusiastic. It was easy for us to determine what material he was comfortable with and what things (factoring, quadratic equations, inequalities, reducing equations) that he needed to practice. For next time, he's going to review the rest of the practice problems for the algebra section and do the practice tests for algebra and arithmetic. We will do math next week, then split math/verbal the following week. We discussed strategies for approaching the different math questions and general tips about the test (being careful to be precise about what the question is asking for, reading the diagrams and charts in detail, looking for alternate answers). He took the diagnostic test for math and for verbal before the first session, so we can use these scores to gauge his progress. We discussed a plan for reviewing vocabulary (recording new words from all practice questions to review, and reviewing lists of top 50-100 GRE words so that it is manageable). The student also started a list of unfamiliar math concepts from our practice problems that he can review as needed."
"We covered the issue essay, how to construct your arguments, and how to plan. We also went over the rest of the student's math diagnostic, and practiced probabilities and permutations. The student promised to do a full practice test for review on Monday."
