Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed our review of chapters 7 through 10 in this session. We had gone over worksheets covering chapters 9 and 10 in our previous sessions, so this entire session was devoted to recapping his work on chapters 7 and 8. I had asked him to explain his approach to each question, and I had him work out the harder problems. In addition, I would also have him describe to me ways that he could check his work."
"We went back and reviewed previous sections so that she can complete the quizzes in those sections. She was able to do 3 quizzes today in which she scored well in. She seems to be caught up on all the quizzes, she just has to complete the unit tests. We also completed a new section today. So she will complete the quiz for that section sometime this week."
"We went over slope concepts today: what is slope, how to calculate slope, slope-intercept equation of a line and point-slope equation. She understood the material fairly well, after she got the basic concepts. She took down notes at the end and I was able to answer questions she had. I am going to email her worksheets to complete for the associated topics and send her another worksheet tonight (I will make it) to summarize the concepts learned. She mentioned that she is doesn't need to go over any more lessons from the old workbook and she is waiting for the new algebra workbook to arrive. So for Thursday, I will go over a new topic from algebra and from next week on we will be working out of the algebra workbook."
"On Thursday, the student started by completing her math test for the previous unit. She had 2 questions about the test, but upon reviewing all of her work, she had everything completed correctly. We were able to get her caught up on all of her math worksheets from that week, which were still dealing with solving systems of equations. She seems to have a great understanding of the various methods she could use to solve systems of equations. The only area for improvement would be for her to double check her work to eliminate minor errors in calculation. Otherwise she is performing very well."
"Today we discussed the function of a variable, the vertical line test, graphing functions, and we revisited domain and range. The student completed the 3rd homework assignment in this unit and made notes on what topics we discussed to prepare for the upcoming test. He will find out which sections of the chapter are on the unit test and let me know before tomorrow's session, so that we can prepare efficiently. He did very well with graphing, domain, and range, so I hope that will translate to his exam!"
"We used this session to review for an upcoming exam that the student was going to be having in his class. We covered many topics such as order of operations, combining like terms, and ratios. The final subject we covered was determining whether or not two lines were parallel or perpendicular. He could easily tell when given the slope intercept form of a line but had difficulty with applying the concept of slope in general. We spent a lot of time on this but overall I think he will be well prepared for his exam."
