Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student read through this week's book. She enjoyed the story and is looking forward to next week's book that is a sequel. We also completed several math sheets focusing again on tally charts and bar graphs. She did a nice job reading through the directions and the questions. She is continuing to work hard and we once again covered lots of information during our session."
"We practiced reading from some worksheets that I brought. The exercise focused on reading passages with similar sounding words. Then we played some phonics games on the computer, which focused on story comprehension and phonemes. The student is good at sounding out words and blending sounds to create words. He had a little trouble identifying long and short vowel sounds but usually says the words correctly based on memory. Next time we will focus on creating familiarity with different vowel pronunciation as well as sight-reading."
"The student's mother and I spoke at length about her daughter's work with an occupational therapist. She has a little trouble with writing some manuscript letters and we looked over the reports that were written for her progress. Several examples of her first grade assignments were available to review. She read me her favorite story and we discussed some of the details. To practice remembering details we used glitter glue to form letters and shapes mentioned in the story. This was a good way of retelling using color details. I think using craft materials will serve to keep her interest while improving comprehension of what she's reading as well."
