Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went over math homework and worked ahead in the student's packet to cover some basic statistics. We reviewed science homework."
"Most of the session was focused on a new topic: making graphs. I started by introducing the student to x/y tables for plotting points, and then gave him a couple of examples of points plotted on the x/y plane. He did a few example problems where he plugged numbers in to equations to help him plot the graph."
"Reviewed elimination and substitution with system of equations. Worked through problems involving inequalities. Focused on slowing down, especially when dividing by a negative number."
"Today, the student and I worked on her homework assignment, focusing on what she didn't understand. We reviewed what numbers on a thermometer meant and how we can find the difference between 2 given temperatures. I drew a picture of a thermometer for her to look back on when we worked through her homework. We also talked about how she can draw a picture or some kind of representation that would help her to understand what to do. The student then solved some addition, subtraction, and simple multiplication problems with confidence. She was very attentive today!"
"My session with the student went extremely well because she demonstrated she remembered a lot more information she thought she would. I forced her to right out a study guide for all the topics in the homework and gave her homework to memorize that information the for next session. As long as we keep doing this I know she will score over an 80 in her next exam. We also worked on SAT II math II. Our goal is to review all the topics in the next couple weeks and then do a bunch of practice exams. So far, we reviewed 5/20 topics. The latter one are the most difficult, so our goal is to plow through the first 10 topics quickly, so we can focus on the last 10 and have enough time for the student to master them. We will do the same for physics II, but I'm not as worried because the student's physics class has prepared him a great deal for this exam."
"This session was very straightforward. After checking in with the student on how he's doing in class, we went over free response questions and the student has improved quite a bit on his performance in this section. I also discussed with him strategies to double-check his work. Overall I think he will do great!"
