Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"He is an executive looking to gain conversational skills in Mandarin. We started today with basic expectations of learning a new language. Learning any new language will require patience and practice. I explained that our session will be divided into two sections. The first section will be conducted in both English and Mandarin to help his understanding of the grammar and structure of the language. The second section will be conducted mostly in Mandarin to help him gain fluidity with conversation. In our first session, we covered basic phonetic components of Mandarin and simple vocabulary. Since he will be using his new learned Mandarin skills in board rooms and meeting, we also discussed some differences in culture to help him understand what is appropriate to say."
"We learned a lot today! The student did a wonderful job on finishing her homework assignment from the last time, she wrote a nice long letter to me and 3 extra sentences with almost no mistakes. So today we moved on to learn many new materials: first we played a little tongue twister called "Beat the Tiger", then we learned how to say and write: also, teacher, beat, want, eat, meat, ear, tooth, eyes and tongue. I helped her wrote several sentences with a theme on food, for example: "I want to eat beef." The homework is to complete the worksheet I left and write 3 new sentences on what she and her dad and mom like to eat."
"I first helped student 1 finish up a social studies essay, and do some math homework. I then worked with student 2 on Mandarin vocabulary, and we did some translations. We focused on a couple grammar points too, which I will reinforce next time."
