Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent some time getting to know each other. We also discussed her primary goals for our sessions - helping her organize and catch up on school work. We also spent some time discussing what work she has been given from her teachers and knows that she needs to complete. Mainly, she had work in social studies, math, and science. Her main concern for this session was to focus on material for the state constitution test that she will have to take soon. We spent some time reviewing units 30-32 and discussing answers to the focus questions provided in her study guide. Later, we discussed some math concepts including the distributive property, like terms, simplifying expressions, and multiplicative inverses. I assigned her several items for next time. I broke down the assignments so that she knows what to work on each day in order to complete the items in a way that is not overwhelming, but ensures that the work is completed before more work is sent home from school."
"We covered gender and race issues of the 1790s with a diary of an African-American mathematician talking about the plight of his fellow brethren who were slaves. Furthermore, we discussed gender issues and feminist issues through a famous feminist of the times who spoke out against injustice and prejudice."
"The student and I reviewed for a test using the textbook and study guide. We were able to work on it together."
