Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We met today to go over 10.1 (Area of Parallelograms and Triangles). Overall, the student understood the material and by the end of session was able to do the problems successfully."
"We reviewed using trigonometry to find the missing measurements in problems involving angle of elevation and angle of depression. We completed his regular homework assignment, as well as the extra assignment given by his teacher as a follow-up to the most recent quiz. He scored 85% on the quiz."
"The student's Geometry test is tomorrow, so we picked up where we left off covering material from last week. The remainder of the chapter focused on solving for area of polygons using the apothem and finding the area of quadrilaterals. These problems require multiple steps; we worked on how to catch errors and double check work. Overall, I am seeing major improvement in his ability to catch his errors."
"I spent this session going over problems on surface area with the student. I first helped her with general concepts - breaking an object down and adding together the area of each individual surface and determining which surfaces appear multiple times. I then gave her the formulas for the surface areas of cylinders and cylindrical pyramids, and I showed her how sometimes dimensions of a surface need to be determined from information about other surfaces of an object. I first guided her through this process for her homework problems and then created about a dozen more shapes of various kinds and helped her through the process with them. B the end, she was able to solve the more complicated problems by herself with few errors."
"We went over the exam the student took last week and covered some more materials she may need for her midterm next week. This included previous tests, which were in a similar format as the test she will be taking. I left her a worksheet with some practice problems and will email her additional questions."
"The student earned a 100% on her first quiz of the semester, matching our goal! Today, we covered similarity triangle ratios, and she showed proficiency in the Algebra and Geometry components. We went deep into word problems, which is a topic she struggled on. The tactic that we used to circumvent the barrier was to draw a picture, which helped significantly."
