Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on initial blends with rhyming short vowel endings today. She is consistently improving on reading sight words fluently although she still sounds out almost all of the words when she is reading out loud. I am encouraging her to read more fluidly. We did not have much success with writing in today's session but I told her that is where we would begin for our next meeting."
"I met with the student and worked on his reading packet, his sight words and his math sheet. He doesn't appear to be struggling with phonics. He is perfectly able to sound out all the letters and remembers most of the special rules like "sneaky e". We reinforced phonics rules and timed his reading packet. He is very intelligent and didn't have problems completing the tasks."
"I focused on phoneme substitution. The student replaced all the beginning vowel sounds with the /k/ sound. In addition, he replaced all the short /a/ sounds with the short /e/ sound. We also reviewed his pre-k sight words playing close attention to the words he was still having difficulty. He still has difficulty differentiating between "d" and "b" and "q" and "p". He was very positive towards his assignments and is always excited when he reads work without mistakes. I included some new reading strategies through the use of 1st grade reader books, that he must read 3x a day to improve fluency and reading levels. I left him some worksheets to practice his reading and discussed with mom and dad some drills they can do to improve his reading. Mom also provided me with examples of the student's work from his teacher. I have not seen any grades from school. I do not have any concerns with his progress at this time. He is improving daily."
