Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With Student A, we first went through his homework, which was solving inequalities algebraically (which I gave him a head start on in the last session). We then went through OR and AND statement inequalities and solving those algebraically. He did quite well, only making occasional small mistakes (I advised him to strike a balance between doing problems quickly and making sure not to make small errors). For Student B, we first did rounding decimals and multiplying. He was able to this easily. Then, we did rounding decimals and dividing. He struggled with a few of the problems in the book, so I then made up a series of questions involving dividing decimals. By the end of the session, I believe he pretty much got that down. Next session with Student B, we will focus on reading and writing."
"The student finished a series of input/ output charts in which he followed certain criteria (only use negative numbers, odd numbers, even numbers, etc.). He worked on the weekly challenging math problems and was able to figure them out with a few hints from me. We reviewed mean, median, mode, and range for his new math unit."
"Today the student and I worked on test prep and reviewing questions that would be on his test. We worked with slope, linear lines, and whether they increase or decrease. Next week he will be bringing Spanish work so we can continue to work on that."
"In this session, we worked on addition problems, including problems with two and three addends as well as word problems. The student didn't work as fast during this session as he has in our past meetings, but overall, his work was more accurate. He got confused or lost track of his counting much less than before. In the end, he had made very few total mistakes."
"The student did all of the problems on her homework. She has a test tomorrow about units of measure and conversions, and it seems like she will do okay with the test. We specifically covered ounces to pints, feet to inches, and pounds to tons. She told me she is feeling confident about her test tomorrow and this was mostly review for her."
"The student and I worked on her reading log. We co-read from the chapter book "Appleblossum the Possum." We identified the setting and wrote an illustration summary of the three chapters that we co-read. She also worked on completing previous math homework assignments. She completed worksheets on identifying odd and even numbers, fact families and word problems."
