Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"With the assessment exam just a few days away, the student continued to practice questions from past exams. He continues to do well, and we review rules and steps when he gets stuck on a question. If there is a particular topic that he is challenged by, we will practice several others like it so that he feels confident in that area. He always works hard and asks specific questions when he is unsure of how to approach a problem. He has also improved on showing his work for questions in parts 2, 3, and 4, knowing that he can get points for any work shown, even if the final answer is incorrect. His test taking strategies are also very good."
"The student and I reviewed integrals for her upcoming chapter exam/final. She's doing a nice job finding antiderivatives and finding the limits of integration. She was having a little bit of a hard time with problems that involved a flat base and cross-sections, but she caught on really quickly once we went through examples. She seemed much more confident by the end of the session. We reviewed some Riemann sums, disks, and washer methods as well."
"We covered factoring by grouping. We also continued an online Math SAT practice test--Part 2, Quiz 3. The student really worked hard on focusing her energy into the material. She showed great discipline and self-control."
"The student and I worked on a study guide on unit rate and proportions. He initially had some difficulty knowing when to multiply and when to divide. We reviewed when to do each operation. I also learned he got a grade of 91 in his math class on his report card."
"With both boys, we reviewed the weekly homework given by their teachers. This was also a review for their Friday test. We covered simple interest, reducing or increasing by a percentage, adding tax and/or tip as a percentage, and salary and commission."
"The student is doing much better with his percents. He has really improved with practice in mark ups, mark downs, and taxes. Today, he also started fractions and unit rates. This material is still very new, but he was able to explain it and do problems independently by the end of the session. He is very dedicated to his work and is a joy to work with."
