Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Completed math homework covering fractions. Went over graded tests/assignments (chemistry test on solutions, literary circle assignment, and math test). Started practice test. Plan to start weekly set of worksheets for math review. Assigned math worksheets covering multiplication (multiplication table, and 4 worksheets covering 6, 7, 8, 9 multiplication) to complete for next session."
"This lesson we focused on improving the quality of the student's writing. I originally planned to work on developing her vocabulary, but after seeing her writing response from Tuesday night, it was evident that she needed more help with that. We worked on looking back into the text to find important supporting details and explaining what was happening in her own words. She was motivated to work tonight and seemed to really care about the strategies she was learning. She is going to read another text and answer more selected response questions before our last session on Tuesday. I did not see any grades this session. I look forward to seeing how she applies this lesson's strategies to our final writing piece."
"Today we spent some time focusing on vowels, as the student stated he did not know what they were. I have faith that he will learn quickly as he did well when we reviewed the vocabulary from our last session. We did some reading for a higher level to approach new words. We will continue to read aloud to work on sounding-out words. Working on vowels will help with his general reading skills. He's an extremely bright boy."
"I got an opportunity to understand the student's struggles with organizing assignments for completion. We went over strategies on how to stay organized and make sure all assignments are accounted for. We created a plan to maintain success and plan to have follow up appointments to maintain this organization plan."
"This was the first session with this student. She is a student who needs general study skills and structure to help her gain control of her education. Like most high school students, math and science are not high on the interest scale, but with a little encouragement I feel she will do fine. We went over what to expect in the coming year in biology. We talked about a few topics where I gave specific examples in everyday life. We also went over a couple of algebra problems. Overall a good first session to build upon."
"The student continues to be well-prepared! She's writing her assignments in her planner and is staying on top of them. We worked a bit on English vocabulary and her word web, then transitioned into working on math. She had some review work to do since she has a test coming up, and she did well with the concepts. The main thing that trips her up sometimes is positive and negative integers, particularly if she switches from multiplying to adding, but she understands the concepts well. As I told her, she has some good math habits down and seems to have a good grasp of the current material. She just needs to keep track of the details (like positive and negative)."
