Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we first reviewed the books we read yesterday. I timed her one more time, and she read both at a good pace. After that, we went over the new book that she had, about Goldilocks. Since it is much longer, we were only able to practice it once."
"The students worked on practicing our sight words today using the flashcards. One student did very well and was excited to get started. He also practiced using some of the words in a sentence, and learned the difference between some of the words that sound the same, but are spelled differently (i.e. "their," and "there"). He then was able to use the computer with the other student to write out some spelling words, and then to play interactive reading games. He did very well today. His homework was to keep using his flashcards, and to use them to create a sentence, then write those down. Next week we will use the flashcards to practice, and work in the reading workbook."
"The student has come a long way. He was able to sit and focus very well for the first part of the session. On his list of 100 sight words we've been working on, he's gone from knowing about 35 of them to knowing about 86."
"The student had struggled with her spelling test last week so we spent our time focusing on this week's list. Thankfully, the words from this week are almost all phonetic and fit with the rules we have worked on with our structured, multi-sensory program that we use together, so we were able to practice reading and spelling all the parts of the words before actually attacking the words. This helped her to get them in her mind well and with continued practice, I am confident that this week's results will be much better."
"The student read a level A book and a level C book from her classroom library. She was very familiar with both books and comfortable reading them; however, she did stumble over some words. She read a level E book for the first time and used phonics strategies to sound out unfamiliar words. She completed a sequencing activity, retold the story in her own words, and we worked with nouns."
"In this session, we worked on months of the year and days of the week again. Because the student tends to struggle with this concept, we will touch on it on every session. We also worked on counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s. We then red "A Little Red Hen," which he really enjoyed."
