Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the sections of the practice test the student completed for homework (the English and math). Her scores improved from the last exam--23, 31 respectively. We then did another essay practice. She will finish the rest of practice test 5 for homework, including the essay."
"We finished reviewing algebra and functions. The student has shown consistent improvement in passage reading sections. We covered strategies in sentence completion. I assigned him two sets of homework."
"The student and I had our initial meeting today. I introduced her to triage, and we covered the fundamentals of the Reading and Science subject tests. We also discussed future lesson times."
"Today, the student and I are covering math and reading strategies for the test on the 23rd. He has a few sections to do for our next session."
"Today we worked entirely on Algebra. The student had trouble with it before, and I thought it would be a good idea to build it up a bit. While working through some problems, I discovered that he was a bit rusty with his fractions and negative numbers. My plan for next session is to continue our current work and begin looking at some of the non-math portions of the test."
"Covered strategies for writing section, focusing on specific grammar rules -- parallelism, semicolons, and paragraph improvement. Math = specific algebraic properties, word problems. CR = vocabulary is important, strategies for attacking specific types of passages, etc."
"We focused solely on the reading comprehension portion of the ACT, working through a few practice readings. The student said she was going to work on a reading section from one of the practice tests in the book for next week."
"Today, we completed our second practice test and noted some areas that we need to review for next time. The student needs to practice outside of our sessions and review the basic function derivatives so that he can apply them in these practice problems."
"Today the student took two full-length science tests. The first one was a little rough and she scored a 19. We went over some strategy and she raised her score to a 25. For HW, I left her to go over the 2nd science test and take a full-length math test."
"Today's focus was on preparation of verbal and math. I administered two practice tests to the student, and she showed great improvement from our last time working together (before she took the test). She struggled a bit with vocabulary, and I instructed her to practice for at least 1 hour in her verbal workbook. Math shows a big improvement; she just has to work on her time management and reading the questions thoroughly. We will have our final review session Friday, where we will recap reading and verbal and I will answer/clarify any remaining questions she has."
"The student is a very clever student and his attitude toward the material is top notch. Today we covered some more difficult math concepts: Venn diagrams, union and intersection theory, subtracting variables, (reminded him to always rewrite minus as plus negative first before going into the distributive property), finding the mean, probability with more than one occurrence (must multiply the two occurrences), finding the slope of a line (remember to assign x1, y1 and x2, y2 to your coordinates first, then rise over run) and finding the area of a parallelogram on a coordinate plane. Strategies covered were: don't spend too much time on one question; go on to the next and come back later. Write out all your work so you can track it. Incorrectly answered questions were covered during the session today. Homework: Email me the questions which he is stumped on and we will work them out tomorrow!"
"The student and I got started discussing her past ACT scores and her goals for her next test and for college. We went over some general test-prep advice and the pacing breakdown of the test before diving into the Math section content. After going over Math, we had some time to talk about Science as well. I assigned her some Math and Science practice for next time."
