Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was reviewing for a test that will cover parametric equations and polar coordinates. We went over odd problems in her textbook over three of the four sections the test will be over. She said she felt good about the stuff we were able to cover."
"During today's session, we mainly prepared for the bonus test and quiz tomorrow on trigonometric functions and triangle equations. This included finding the missing side or angle in a triangle, using Pythagorean identities, inverse trig functions, and remembering SohCahToa and other trig relationships and applications. I think the student is definitely prepared for tomorrow's tests."
"The student had some homework assignments to complete to get her grade up from a few weeks back. They dealt a lot with trigonometric functions: using the trig properties, finding trig functions (period, amplitude, phase shift, and midline), and solve for exact solutions."
"We went over another section of the homework that had to do with zeros of polynomials, and started working on polynomials. We reviewed synthetic division. The student has improved in the synthetic division."
"The student and I went over the first section of her class notes. The topic was on conic sections and ellipses. We covered all the attributes of an ellipse and how they relate back to the equations of ellipses in standard and general form. As usual, we had a very productive session, and I asked her to complete the first ten problems of her "problem set" given by her instructor as practice on the ellipses topic. We will go over these next time and continue to the next sections of her notes."
"Today's session focused on more Trig identities. We manipulated expressions to prove that one side was equal to the other by substituting known trig identities. The student was able to complete the assignment. We also worked out some examples of using trig identities to solve for angle values, which is a concept that the student will be covering in future classes."
