"We went over the student's TCPIP project in detail by describing the function of each class and critical variables. He was catching up with TCP implementation in Java. He was bright and motivated to learn the topic."
"The student and I worked on two of his programs. The first program was a simple if then block execution. The second program involved reading in/out from a .dat file. The task was to read in a .dat file of numbers and do a math operation on them. I explained to him how to do I/O in java used FileReader and BufferedReader objects."
"We went over the rest of the student's assignment #9. She is studying dictionaries in Python. We discussed how they are related to textbook dictionaries (i.e. you can look up a word, but if you have a definition, good luck finding it in a dictionary) which will return information-- sometimes a lot of information-- quickly."
"The student and I worked on concepts in the packet the student had. She did a great job with an 85% on her test."
"I helped the student solve the logic issues in his programming project. He seemed to have the most difficulty on building logics for his project. He has a good learning attitude and fast learning ability. The project was just completed and will be graded by the student's professor. The session is now completed and obtained the required outcome."
"Today, the student and I covered a number of concepts including file interaction and iteration, functions, concatenation, string methods, and problem understanding. We worked on Stage 1 of her "Anteater Bed and Breakfast" assignment in which we must design a hotel management system that takes input from a text file. She was having some difficulty understanding the prompt and what the goal of the assignment was. When we started working however, the concept clicked, and she was able to move ahead with confidence. She is gaining rapid understanding of complex data types, particularly interacting with strings and lists. Next time, I plan on asking her to write more actively after I help with the initial definition of the tasks to allow her to practice and demonstrate her skills thus far. I asked her to continue working on contemplating this assignment so that we can finish it in the allotted time. A wonderful session the student ! Good Job."
