"We practiced sight words that the student knew instantly: the, in, he, to, and is. We found them in text, glued them on our word board and then wrote the word next to the cut out. We looked through r-controlled blend flashcards and practiced a chant to help us remember the letter combination with the sound. We then sorted picture word cards under the r-controlled blend cards: tr, pr, fr, br, gr. I introduced a text about Spiders at his level. We wrote down what we knew about spiders already, did a book walk, and then posted sticky note questions throughout the book. We discussed that good readers ask questions as they are reading to help them understand better. We finished with a listen and drew. I read a book out loud as he drew a picture. We then went through r controlled blend books that I had and read words."
"Today the student and I went over the letters W, V, and U. I compared W to waves of water, the V for the neck of a vest and the U to an upside down umbrella. Hopefully this will help her to tell them apart in the future. We then read two books."
"The student started today's session with one chapter from a chapter book. She preceded on to multiple level 10 books. She mentioned that she likes reading, and she has a lot of enthusiasm about reading."
