Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student worked on the Science and Math sections. In the science section, she seemed to have no trouble accurately answering the questions; however, she must be careful noticing the small details (trends, NOT questions, etc.). She seems to rush to answer the questions, which is unnecessary since she consistently finishes 23 minutes before the designated stop time. Also, she should not be intimidated by questions with pictures attached.
In the math section, she seemed to be fluent in the vast majority of subjects, but could use work on the geometry problems, especially the proofs and complex angles.
In general, she should remember to 1) not rush, 2) do not second guess herself, 3) pay attention to detail, and 4) do NOT get stuck on one problem."

"The girls analyzed plot, setting, characters, conflict, and theme for their summer reading books. They wrote a short story in which they combined elements from the books they had read with elements from their own imaginations."
"We reviewed the math homework, which the student did very well on. She has most of the knowledge needed for the math section of the test. We then completed a reading lesson and discussed strategies for answering inference questions. We also worked on time management for that section of the test."
"ISEE prep today. We touched all subjects (math is surprisingly easy for his grade level compared to similar standardized tests)."
"We began this evening by going over the placement exam science drills. He performed very well on the drills, missing only 2 questions altogether. We spent the remainder of the session beginning the math test review, going over the general information about the mathematics test as well as specifically reviewing the algebra component. From what I observed, he is very good at math; though he made a few mistakes due to rushing. We will work on controlling that next time."
"I continued to review polynomials and graphing with the student. She understands the concepts well but still has small errors in her work. These errors are most common while distributing a negative sign through a parenthesis and when having to use addition/subtraction and multiplication/division principles to solve for x. In the latter issue, she tends to add when she should subtract, multiply, or divide. For each of these issues, I stressed that she needs to show every step of her work and slow down. I then had her work multiple problems where she would need to use each skill until she had no errors. She did very well once she was conscious of the areas she had the most errors in."
"We spent the full two hours on math, starting with some easier problems to be sure he had the concepts down, and then moved on to more challenging problems. He was stumped by a few problems at the end but they were the most challenging ones and he understood them once they were explained."
"The student and I worked to prepare him for his first makeup test in precalculus. Topics included factorials, summation, sequences and series (arithmetic and geometric), binomial theorem, and counting principles."
"The student and I reviewed multiple 2nd grade skills. She mastered different skill sets including mixed addition/subtraction problems, word problems, counting with base 10's, as well as reading bar graphs. Great session!!"
"I advised the student on a United States history homework assignment. We read through a textbook, and I taught him a little about the different branches of government and the constitution, and then he answered the questions."
"Student struggling with long division and LCM and GCF. I introduced a new division strategy that was very successful. Reviewed the concepts of addition, subtraction multiplication and division. Also worked on greatest common factor and least common multiple."
"We reviewed the concept of the mole from atomic mass units to molar mass and it calculation. We discussed the octet rule briefly, balancing equations, began discussing stoichiometry, and reviewed sample problems from the textbook.
The student stated that she got an A in her last test.
Extra practice problems from the back of the chapter were suggested: she should show all of her work when solving problems step by step."
