Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over simplifying radical expressions, operations with radicals, and equations with radicals. He was grasping the concepts pretty well, but we spent most of our time going over how to simplify radical expressions that contain fractions underneath the radicand. His last test is the Friday and then we will begin to study for the final test."
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming Algebra 2 test on conic sections by doing practice problems that his teacher passed out in class. Although he has been maintaining an A average in the class, conic sections is one of the hardest chapters, and he seemed to need some additional practice to fully understand how to use various formulas. After our session, I recommended that the student create a formula table, separated by the conic shape, that will help him compare and contrast among the shapes. I also told him to do some additional problems that his teacher provided but did not mandate."
"We did many practice problems on logs/exponents to solidify her skills. We learned annuity and money value concepts and practiced those extensively. I left her with enough practice in preparation for our last session tomorrow before her exam on Thursday."
"The student took her test today, which was proctored by a sub. We worked on one of her worksheets that involved adding, dividing, multiplying and dividing rational equations and complex fractions. She was able to work through most of the problems. I did not leave her with any extra practice but encouraged her to get through as many worksheets as possible."
"Covered more test review for his final. He improved his quiz grades between now and last time so he has a better shot. I left him with a plan for what he should do and told him I could answer any questions via email before his test."
"The student and I went over several worksheets that she has to finish before the end of the week when she will have possibly another test. Right now they are working on probability, regression, equations, determinants, matrices and review. We got through a few sheets and will continue next session to prepare for finals."
"The student and I worked on the rest of her assignments for the chapter and then finished with the chapter review. We did some more work on geometric sequences. We used the same equations as the day before, but we were given different variables to fill in and solve for other ones. We also worked with Pascal's triangle a lot. We also looked at probabilities using Pascal's triangle, using the equation xCy/2^x. Finally, we went through the chapter review and went through more problems similar to the ones we were working on."
"He has an exam tomorrow that he is fully prepared for. We started from the beginning with quadratic equations. Once the concepts were re-explained, he had no problems with answering questions and arriving at the correct answer. We will be meeting later this week upon the decision from his father. His final for algebra is next Tuesday, so I would like to get in another session before his exam. He feels prepared for the exams and has a better grasp on the concepts."
"Today we worked on his homework assignment, which consisted of several variations of algebra subjects. This included long division, forming fractions, repeating decimals, and adding and subtracting fractions. He did a very good job with endurance and was able to do the problems faster as the session went on."
"We did a practice/diagnostic test from online, covering functions. We got to factoring quadratic equations, circle functions and their important properties, and planes/lines/coordinates. I didn't see any grades but I can tell she is getting faster at these kinds of questions."
"The student and I worked on the cosine law and we mostly worked on finding the missing angles or sides in a given triangle. There were also application problems which led to a triangle and finding its missing sides/angles."
"We went through his review which was about conics and their properties. He covered all of the review before and I asked him to solve some of the problems again to make sure he is doing well. He knew what he was doing."
