"Pre-Calc quiz tomorrow, worked on review. Also did the first part of Biology test review to practice making a good review sheet. We will set up work schedule next week."
"Worked on Science section strategy, scored a 29 on the one we did section by section. If all his other scores stay the same and he improves that one by that much, I'm pretty sure he'll hit his goal, but once we get through the Reading section next week, we'll do a quick review over the other 3 sections and have him take a proctored assessment before he takes the test again."
"The student worked on finding the missing variable. He worked on handwriting skills out of his handwriting book. He also has a test on Sept. 21st so we started studying for that on the quiz website. He also had to work with sentences. For example, What is the difference between a statement and a question. The student had to identify the difference in punctuation of a statement with a period and a question with a question mark. He will also start to write in his calendar all the homework and class-work he did. Great job today!!"
"The student and I worked on finding nice synonyms to describe the students in his class. This was to finish the assignment his teacher had given him. We also worked on grammar. I wrote 5 sentences with errors and he had to correct them. I then read him a sentence and he wrote it down from what he heard. Then he corrected his own errors."
"Today the student and I discussed the need to properly manage his time. He has gotten much more organized with his materials. We also talked about the benefits of studying a few of his vocab words every night. We spent time going through his readers' response journal assignment. We then began studying for his science test. I told him how he can often find the answers in his notes or in previous tests. He spent some time filling in the study guides for science and social studies."
"We reviewed how to write the equation of a line if a point on the line is given and the new line is parallel to a another line who's slope is given. We went through several problems together and then reviewed the same topic when the new line is perpendicular to another line who's slope is given. We discussed in depth the difference in slope between a parallel and perpendicular line. "
"We went over the things she didn't understand from Chapters 1-6 and had a practice examination. We reviewed the practice exam, and I am sending her an email with the equations that are important to memorize for the test."
"Great session, great kid. the student is very smart, incredibly outgoing, easy to get along with, and has the right attitude about the test. This is going to be a terrific client."
"Initial consultation with the student. Formulated tutoring plan for the near future. Reviewed the student's homework for the week. Briefly went over topics from last semester. Took the student's old work to analyze for the next tutoring session."
"The student and I discussed a mini-essay he was writing about motifs in Macbeth, and then we finished the play! He made several excellent observations about the unexpected humor of the play and the characters of Macbeth, Macduff, and Lady Macbeth."
"The student and I went over the full practice test she took as her homework from our last session. She showed significant improvement, increasing her score in every area except for math, where she managed to maintain her score. We started with math, going over the questions she answered incorrectly. Overall, she was able to complete the math questions once she moved past the initial intimidating prospect of the questions. After math we moved onto reading, and then science. In both sections, she only got a few questions wrong and we did not spend too much time here. During our review of the English section we talked about appositives and another way to think about them. We finished the session by going over math problems in her test review book as a way to expose her to more and more ACT style math questions. She is taking a school-administered ACT this Wednesday and, as such, I did not assign her any homework except to relax and get in the right mindset."
"I did a reading assessment for the student, identified his needs, discussed plans for the next session, and suggested tips for in between session. He needs work on blended consonants and letters, and I will implement strategies accordingly as we move forward."
