Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had a worksheet covering combination, permutation, and Pascal's triangle. She was a little confused initially, but after working a few problems, she got the hang of it and was able to finish without much trouble. She started her final exam review."
"We did some review for the student's final in Calculus 3. We reviewed problems on Lagrange multipliers, Stokes' theorem, and divergence theorem. The questions were medium to hard difficulty, but we were able to work them out. We will have another session, to get more practice on the topics from vector calculus."
"Today I helped the student with another practice set. This one included word problems, substitutions, distribution, some geometry, and basic algebraic operations. Once again he performed well, got a lot accomplished, and stayed focused throughout the session."
"Today was our first session and we worked through many of the student's questions covering exponential growth and decay. We also proceeded to work ahead in his class by covering some decay rate information that he suspected he would cover in the upcoming weeks. I worked to answer all fundamental questions that he had so that we could move forward with the topics that truly got his attention. He is quite bright and picks up topics quickly so I suspect that we will continue moving forward into new topics in future sessions. I will work to help him completely understand the value of each topic as we begin to learn them."
"More of probability problems using both fraction and percentage forms to calculate such events. We needed to make exhaustive lists in order to solve the problems. The student seemed to understand what is going on. We will work to improve on his speed and on his arithmetic."
"Study for geometry test, worked on homework, and did the practice test. No grades. The student did a great job. He studied his flashcards. No concerns."
"The student scored well on the biology exam and now has an A in the course. On the algebra exam, she noted that it was much more challenging. She has a quiz on Friday of this week, so we spent time understanding the concepts (line segment addition postulate) that she will be responsible for on that quiz. I believe that she is prepared for the quiz, but we need to work on more concepts for her final."
"The student and I went over a bunch of different worksheets he needs to finish by Friday, so we covered topics such as: quadratic equation in standard form, arithmetic/geometric sequences/series, change of rate, graphing with shifts (square root, absolute value, cubic, etc.), binomial expansion, and piecewise functions. He is able to do most of the problems after being shown examples. He said that he already took the first part of the final and only a few problems he was unsure of how to do. We covered as much material as possible, and he feels confident in the second part today."
"Today we covered setting equations equal to each other, solving systems of linear equations, the general form of the solution to some types of linear systems of equations, and solving systems of non-linear equations. The student is progressing normally. I left him with the general solution formulas to study and have no other concerns at this time."
"Today we reviewed for the student's final exam which is on Friday. Most of the session was spent working on word problems. I gave him extra practice problems to work tomorrow before his exam."
"We reviewed the exam and completed test corrections. I encouraged her to continue to work on the worksheets. Because the teacher did post the answers to them, she could do the problem on her own and check the solution."
"We continued to work through the student's study guide for her final exam. We began by double-checking a couple of quadratic equation problems she had struggled with previously, but she immediately solved them after trying a different approach. Aside from a few fraction simplification problems, most of the problems presented no real difficulty."
