Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We primarily focused on the science section, but spent some time on English as well as the essay. We began by covering her essay. She had included a counterargument, which had been a big problem in the past, however it was located at the very beginning of her essay, which is strange formatting. We also addressed issues where she made statements without fully supporting them (either through logic or some form of evidence.)"
"We reviewed the practice math problems I assigned for homework at the last session. Student has a good knowledge base, and understands the concepts at play in most of the question types. I would like to work on helping him find quicker ways of solving the problems. I am emphasizing using algebra to simplify the problem solving and to avoid tedious calculations. He has been getting questions right by using a guess and check strategy for many of them, but can save time by using simpler methods. I will continue to emphasize this in the next sessions. We did a vocabulary quiz based on the sections he reviewed since the last session. He is getting the hang of some of them, but I would like him to continue to work each day on reviewing difficult words. A major source of difficulty is simply not knowing what some answer options mean in the verbal sections, which can be alleviated by expanding his vocab. Consistent and continual review of vocabulary is vital in the last month before the test date. Flash cards, study sheets, and online materials will all help with comprehension and retention."
"Reviewed trigonometry and related problems, as well as specific science passages. Covered the organization and style of the English essay."
