Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was just starting out his SAT studying, so we went over the format of the exam. We then went through some logic games. He did well at the games and I taught him effective ways to set up the problems. We moved onto some logical reasoning and I taught him how to approach certain question types. We finished by looking at an actual SAT exam and going through a couple logic games in that format."
"Today the student and I continued working on her personal statement and discussed law school admission. Since she had several different drafts of the statement, we decided to combine them all into one document (separated by paragraph/section) and then to whittle down to a single draft. We discussed her desire to follow the guidelines from the pre-law program, as well as tips from other sources regarding the essay. We discussed that the essay can still contain abstract or philosophical ideas so long as they are supported with concrete examples and made interesting. When we first copied and pasted all the various drafts, they created a 12-page document, but we soon were able to get it to a more manageable size. For next time she will read through the document to get a sense of what she wants to keep and what she wants to discard. In our next session we will do more work on it."
"We focused mostly on reading comprehension today. The student had done practice sections on reading comprehension and logical reasoning and is getting around 80% correct. We discussed certain questions/question types with which she struggled and what to focus on in giving her a better chance of answering these correctly. The student will still focus on reading comprehension in the upcoming week. She will email me as to which passages she worked on and we will discuss them next week."
