Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I met with the student and his mother for the first time. I told him how effective note cards are for studying and I gave him some insight into effective studying habits. We worked on geometry proofs for the remainder of the session."
"Reviewed homework practice questions covering right triangles that included the Pythagorean theorem, special right triangles and their applications and the congruence of triangles created by drawing an altitude to a base of a right triangle. Supplemented with some questions and examples of my own."
"We covered specialized parallelograms including rhombi, squares, and rectangles. We discussed how to differentiate between the different ones and what proofs make up the definitions of each. We also took some practice tests on the material. The student struggled most with some of the finer points of shape differentiation, but in general has a solid grasp of the material. She has a great attitude towards the material. We got A's on all of the tests we took together, with minimal helping from me to push her towards the right answers."
"Friday was the student's 22nd tutoring session. It went very well. We focused most of our time on reviewing all surface area formulas for all solids including prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres. He has memorized all these formulas and has a very good understanding on how to apply them. We focused some extra time on using trigonometry when finding the areas of some bases. He is doing very well in geometry so we spent some extra time researching the for more information about the Irish in the Civil War. Great work."
"We covered trigonometry (similar triangles, 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles, SohCahToa, Law of Sines, Law of Cosines)."
"We primarily reviewed for the student's Chapter 10 and 11 exam during this session. We worked through homework problems from sections 8.6, 10.5 to 10.8, and 11.1 and reviewed topics including planes through geometric figures, surface areas and volumes for different 3D-shapes, and tangent lines. We discussed how the student could best manage her time for studying for her exam. We also looked over her 10.1 to 10.4 quiz, which she did well on."
